Quick answer: Install the Recipe Cloud extension from the Chrome Web Store, sign in once, then open any recipe page in Google Chrome and click the extension icon. Review the preview and tap Save recipe. The recipe is added to your Recipe Cloud account and syncs to the iPhone/iPad app and web app.
What the extension does
The Recipe Cloud Chrome extension saves recipes while you browse — no copy-pasting URLs required. It reads the page you’re on and pulls out recipe details such as:
- Title and photo
- Ingredients (when the page includes them)
- Servings and cook times (when available)
- Source link back to the original page
It works on recipe websites and blogs, and also supports saving from Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook when you view those posts in Chrome.
The extension is for desktop Chrome. Use the Recipe Cloud iPhone/iPad app or the web app’s Add From URL option on mobile.
Install the extension
- Go to the Recipe Cloud Chrome Extension in the Chrome Web Store.
- Click Add to Chrome and confirm the install.
You can also open it from Recipe Cloud:
- Click + in the top navigation → Get Chrome Extension
- Or visit the Getting Started page and use the Chrome Extension link
Pin the extension (recommended)
- Click the puzzle piece icon in the Chrome toolbar.
- Find Recipe Cloud and click the pin icon so it stays visible in your toolbar.
Sign in (first time only)
The first time you use the extension, you’ll see Sign In to Continue.
- Open the recipe page you want to save.
- Click the Recipe Cloud extension icon.
- Tap Sign In.
- Recipe Cloud opens a browser tab to connect the extension to your account.
- If you’re not signed in on the website, log in at recipecloudapp.com. You’ll be returned to the connect page afterward.
- When you see You’re connected. You can close this tab and use the extension to save recipes., close that tab.
- Go back to the recipe page and click the extension icon again.
Your session stays connected until you sign out or it expires. If that happens, sign in again from the extension popup.
Save a recipe from a website or blog
- In Chrome, open the recipe page you want to save.
- Click the Recipe Cloud extension icon.
- Wait a moment while the extension loads a preview (Loading recipe...).
- Review the preview card — title, photo, servings/times, and a sample of ingredients.
- Click Save recipe.
After saving:
- You’ll see a Saved Recipe confirmation.
- Tap Select Collection to add the recipe to a collection (optional).
- Tap View Recipe to open it on Recipe Cloud.
Save a recipe from social media
The same flow works when the post is open in Chrome:
| Platform | What to do |
|---|---|
| Open the post or reel in Chrome, then click the extension | |
| YouTube | Open the recipe video in Chrome, then click the extension |
| TikTok | Open the video in Chrome, then click the extension |
| Open the post or reel in Chrome, then click the extension |
Social posts don’t always include full ingredient lists on the page. The extension may save a title, image, and link first. Use Edit recipe (below) to add ingredients and instructions from the post.
Edit before or after saving
Before you tap Save recipe, you can:
- Edit recipe — opens the full Recipe Cloud editor in a new tab so you can review ingredients, add instructions, and adjust details before publishing.
- Add ingredients — same editor, shown when no ingredients were detected on the page.
After saving, open the recipe on Recipe Cloud and use Edit Recipe if you need to fix anything.
Add to a collection
After Save recipe:
- Tap Select Collection in the extension popup.
- Pick an existing collection, or tap + New Collection to create one.
- Tap Save.
You can also organize recipes later from Saved on the web or in the iOS app.
If no recipe is detected
If the extension shows No recipe found, the page may not expose recipe data in a format Recipe Cloud can read.
Try:
- Open in Recipe Cloud from the extension — sends you to Recipe Cloud to try another save method.
- Add From URL on the web app (+ → Add From URL) and paste the page link.
- Edit recipe or Add Recipe Manually if you want to enter the recipe yourself.
Some sites work better with the extension than URL import, and vice versa — it’s worth trying both.
Where saved recipes appear
Recipes saved with the extension are stored in your Recipe Cloud account. You’ll find them in:
- My Recipes / Saved on recipecloudapp.com
- The Saved tab in the iPhone/iPad app
Changes sync automatically when you’re signed into the same account.
Tips
- Stay on the recipe page while the extension loads — switching tabs before it finishes can affect detection.
- Pin the extension so it’s one click away while you browse.
- Review the preview before saving, especially on social posts.
- Keep the original tab open after saving so you can compare the source with what was imported.
- On Instagram, reopening the same post may show Saved Recipe without saving again.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | What to try |

| Save failed | Check your internet connection and sign-in status; try again. |
| Recipe not on my phone | Open the app while online and check Saved; confirm you’re on the same account. |
